Postdoctoral Researcher in Electromagnetic Interference and Wireless Communication Systems

As part of the MaDe4Rail 2 European project, this postdoctoral position aims to investigate the potential impact of electromagnetic interference generated by Maglev-derived systems (MDS) on existing wireless communication systems in railway environments. The goal is to analyse the necessary modifications at the physical layer to adapt these systems for MDS integration, including the development of interference cancellation processes. The work will involve MATLAB or Python developments and simulations to evaluate the performance of the relevant wireless systems: Eurobalise, GSM-R, and FRMCS (5G). The work include also collaboration with partners, in particular UPM partner working on EMC models.

Required skills:

  • PhD in telecommunications, signal processing, electromagnetics, or a related field

  • Proven experience in MATLAB modeling and simulation (or equivalent tools)

  • Strong knowledge of wireless communication systems (5G, GSM-R, etc.) and electromagnetic interference

  • Familiarity with physical layer concepts and interference cancellation techniques

  • Ability to work in a team and write technical reports in English as well as publications

  • Autonomy, rigor, and initiative

Education and professional experience:

  • PhD degree in wireless communications, signal processing applied to wireless communications

Environment, work context, reporting structure:

  • Integration into the COSYS/LEOST team at Université Gustave Eiffel, in a dynamic and multidisciplinary environment in the Lille Campus (North of France)

  • Collaboration with industrial and academic partners within the European MaDe4Rail 2 project.

  • Access to state-of-the-art technical and scientific resources.

The candidate will be supervised directly by Marion Berbineau, research Director and Yann Cocheril, laboratory Director will be the line manager.

  • Knowledge: wireless communication systems, radio propagation, mathematics, AI algorithms, signa processing, English (written, spoken), scientific programming

  • Expertise: Matlab simulation, Strong ability in computer programming (Matlab, C, C++, Python, etc.), experience with AI algorithms in wireless communications

  • Attitude: Ability to work in a team and to collaborate with project partner, ability to communicate and disseminate scientific results, organisation, rigour and autonomy, curiosity for new research topics
